Analyses specifications including sketches, blueprints, bills of material or sample layouts, and calculates costs using labour and material pricing schedules and historical data
Collects cost data from functional representatives, subcontractors, and vendors
Computes cost estimates of raw materials or subcontracted work and labour
Prepares and maintains historical cost data
Creates cost models for estimating elements
Prepares cost reports and presents findings to management, contract personnel, proposal coordinators, customer representatives, price auditors, vendors, and subcontractors
Expected to assist in the preparation of larger and more complex assignments
Represents organization as a prime contact, interacting with senior internal and external personnel on significant matters
Analyses blueprints and other documents and prepares detailed cost estimates. Performs accurate quantity take-offs of available design documents.
Obtains accurate and up to date pricing information from databases, contractors, suppliers, etc. to utilize in estimates.
Inputs estimate take-off information for specific discipline into digital format and develops unit cost pricing.
Works with managers and engineers to develop clear understanding of project scope during preparation of estimate. Develops relationships with members of A/E firms and project team members.
Assists senior staff in ways to make projects more efficient. Seeks ways to improve accuracy and efficiency of tasks.
Maintains project documents such as drawings and specifications in an organized and reasonable manner. Maintains project files on file server in accordance with company standards.
Maintains and updates data library of costs.
Prepares cost reconciliation between two or more estimates and explains variance cost drivers.
