Senior Estimator 

• Analyses specifications including sketches, blueprints, bills of material or sample layouts, and calculates costs using labour and material pricing schedules and historical data

• Collects cost data from functional representatives, subcontractors, and vendors

• Computes cost estimates of raw materials or subcontracted work and labour

• Prepares and maintains historical cost data

• Creates cost models for estimating elements

• Prepares cost reports and presents findings to management, contract personnel, proposal coordinators, customer representatives, price auditors, vendors, and subcontractors

• Expected to assist in the preparation of larger and more complex assignments

• Represents organization as a prime contact, interacting with senior internal and external personnel on significant matters

• Analyses blueprints and other documents and prepares detailed cost estimates. Performs accurate quantity take-offs of available design documents.

• Obtains accurate and up to date pricing information from databases, contractors, suppliers, etc. to utilize in estimates.

• Inputs estimate take-off information for specific discipline into digital format and develops unit cost pricing.

• Works with managers and engineers to develop clear understanding of project scope during preparation of estimate. Develops relationships with members of A/E firms and project team members.

• Assists senior staff in ways to make projects more efficient. Seeks ways to improve accuracy and efficiency of tasks.

• Maintains project documents such as drawings and specifications in an organized and reasonable manner. Maintains project files on file server in accordance with company standards.

• Maintains and updates data library of costs.

• Prepares cost reconciliation between two or more estimates and explains variance cost drivers.
